Claude Code Remote Control

Claude Code Remote Control lets you continue a local coding session from your phone, tablet, or browser through claude.ai/code or the Claude mobile app. It is in research preview and available on Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans.

Unlike Claude Code on the web, Remote Control keeps the session running on your machine and uses the browser or mobile app as a remote window into that local session. That means your filesystem, MCP servers, tools, and project settings remain available while you move between devices.

Key capabilities

Remote access to a local session

Start a Claude Code session locally and connect to it from claude.ai/code, the Claude mobile app, or another browser without moving the session off your machine.

Shared conversation across devices

Keep the same conversation in sync across terminal, browser, and phone so you can send messages from whichever surface is convenient.

Full local environment access

Use your local filesystem, MCP servers, tools, and project configuration while connected remotely, with `@` autocompleting file paths from your project.

Automatic reconnection

Resume work after laptop sleep or a network drop; the session reconnects automatically when the machine comes back online.

Configurable session management

Choose how sessions are created with `same-dir`, `worktree`, or `session` modes, and use flags such as `--name`, `--capacity`, and `--sandbox` to control session behavior.

Visible session state

See connection status and tool activity in the terminal, plus a Remote Control indicator and session link while the connection is active.

Common ways to use Remote Control

  • Pick up work on another device

Start a task at your desk, then continue it from a phone or browser when you step away from your computer without losing the local session context.

  • Recover from interruptions

Keep a Claude Code session alive through sleep or a temporary connection loss, then reconnect when the machine is back online.

  • Move between surfaces during one task

Use the same session from a terminal, browser, and mobile app to send messages from whichever surface is most convenient at the moment.

  • Work with local project resources

Continue working against your existing project setup, including local tools and MCP servers, without recreating context in a separate cloud session.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Keeps the session on your local machine instead of moving work to the cloud.
  • Lets you continue the same session from desktop, browser, or mobile.
  • Preserves access to local files, MCP servers, tools, and project configuration.
  • Reconnects automatically if the laptop sleeps or the network drops.
  • Supports multiple start paths, including CLI, current-session command, and VS Code integration.

Cons

  • Remote Control is in research preview, so the feature may change.
  • Team and Enterprise users need an admin to enable the Remote Control toggle first.
  • API keys are not supported.

FAQ

Which plans support Remote Control?
